About Bourgeois Society Magazine

Black Excellence at its best — the people, the standard, and the inheritance.

Produced and Edited by the Bourgeois Society Staff

Bourgeois Society Magazine is an online magazine devoted to a simple conviction: that Black excellence, beautifully lived and honestly documented, deserves a publication of record. It is the Black Excellence edition of The Bourgeois Society, produced and edited by the Bourgeois Society Staff.

What We Publish

Three things, done properly. Society Profiles — the men and women who built companies, congregations, collections, and institutions, presented with the sourcing and care their stories deserve. The Lists — ranked gatherings of the best: the best tables, the best rooms, the best makers, chosen on evidence.

And The Well-Kept Life — the staff's definitive guides to the staffed house, the dressed hour, the travelled mile, and the money kept in the family, researched the way our readers would research them: thoroughly, and from sources we name.

Our Standards

Every fact we print is checked against the sources we cite, and those sources are linked from the page — quotes are the words the record actually carries, and claims we cannot support do not appear. Profiles are written about living people with respect and about history with reverence.

Our pages are evergreen: we write for the reader who arrives in any season, and we keep our subjects' stories, not the calendar, at the centre.

The Publisher

Bourgeois Society Magazine is published by the Bourgeois Society Staff as the Black Excellence edition of The Bourgeois Society. Correspondence with the magazine is welcomed via our contact page.
