Black Men

Builders, owners and leaders rewriting what is possible.

37 profiles, published in 3 installments. Every profile is fact-checked against its sources, and every source opens inside the magazine.

Thirty-seven profiles, published across three installments, of men who build things: companies, funds, dealerships, firms — enterprises that employ people and anchor the communities around them.

The first installment opens with Amari Ruff, André Rice, Billy Vickers and Bob Johnson. The second turns to John A. James, John Beckwith Jr., John W. Rogers Jr. and Larry Brinker Jr.; the third to Tim Harris, Todd Weaver, Tony Chase and Tony Thompson. The order changes. The standard does not.

Taken as a whole, the list is an argument about ownership. These are not profiles of men who found a seat at someone else's table — they are profiles of men who built their own, each one told with its sources open for the reader to check.
